The Foundation Louis Vuitton, located in the Jardin d’Acclimation in Paris, finally opened its doors to the public on October 27th. The goal is to introduce the widest possible audience to 20th and 21st century art, which the institution will do through exhibitions of works of the period’s great artists. They will promote and support contemporary art to a wider French and international public.
The Foundation Louis Vuitton was designed by American architect Frank Gehry, who drew his inspiration from Palais d’Hiver and the Palmarium, two glass and steel structures that graced the Jardin d’Acclimatation in the 19th century.
The idea started in 2001 when Bernard Arnault met with Frank Gehry after visiting Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain with a thought of a collaborative project of the Louis Vuitton Foundation.
